Blog, News: Recording

Yesterday we finished recording all the instruments/vocals in the studio. It was quite a week, from last Tuesday working 9-10h a day, but it was worth it. Overall I’m very happy with how everything sounds and we’ve yet to finish mixing and mastering…

Fran, who’s been doing the sound work has done an excellent job and has helped us shape the sound of the band. He even let us use his vintage amps and other equipment to archive the sound we like. And he has some really cool equipment! We’re grateful to him for this and for all the hours he’s put (and has yet to put) into the project…

We still don’t know how we’re going to release the songs from this recording but we’ll keep you posted… Anyway, we’ll be at least uploading a couple of songs here and to the myspace when we finish…

Blog: Music? Live, thanks…

Music is an artistic expression which can be put into the form of a recording. That’s all great, but if you think about music that way, you’re missing the most important aspect of it…

Unlike a work of art that is put into a concrete form and remains like that (be it a painting, sculpture, etc…), music is re-created each time a performer plays it. Music is organic and changes each time it is played. The magic of music is in the communication between musician and audience, but a record can only communicate a fraction of what a live band will on a concert. Read more…

Blog: Why make music?

Tocando en la playaBefore starting this project, there was one question that had been going around my head: What’s the reason to write a song? Why sing it? What’s the reason to go out there and want people to listen to it?

I love watching live concerts. It’s something I’ve never stopped doing throughout my life and basically the only reason I go out at night anymore. Many times concerts are fun and that’s it. There are many great bands out there, playing great music which I enjoy listening, but a few bands managed to transcend this and reach somewhere deeper. Read more…

Blog, News: Why most of the pictures are missing

I’ve had to remove most of the pictures from the web site, but this is a temporary measure. I host my photos at Flickr which is a great service to share them with friends and family. Since I signed up a few years ago, I’ve occasionally posted albums of photos from concerts I’ve played in that were taken by friends or family members who were kind enough to let me share them online.

But it seems Flickr has a policy of not letting its users post pictures that other people have taken even if these photos are posted with permission from the original photographer. And not only that, they’re erasing accounts without notice for this reason alone.

Now I was lucky because I sent them a question, so I was able to erase the “offending” pictures and my account is safe, but many people weren’t as lucky and lost hours of work labeling and categorizing their pictures.

So, I’m going to start posting these pictures somewhere else (some of them are already online on other services, although I posted them on flickr too so my family would have easy access to them and to use their nice slideshow feature) and will be adding a new slideshow feature to the page soon to display them. In the meantime, you can go to Lenni’s page at picasa where she has posted the pictures she took at a few of our recent concerts.

Blog, News: Our new site

George

Hi all! Finally, after a bit more than 2 years since I started this project, I’ve finally decided to make the website. I know it’s too long, but well, with sites like the GaragePunk Network, Myspace and Facebook, it’s easy to be lazy and just use the simple ones provided by these services…

Anyway, here it is… I’ll be testing it and probably changing and adding stuff over the following days (weeks?) and will try to update it regularly. Feel free to post comments and give me feedback…

Ah, and just a few notes: The site is bi-lingual (just click on the link on the top of the page to change language) and for now we’ll be announcing concerts through our Myspace events, on the sidebar too… I may add an independent calendar here soon and a way to subscribe our mailing list, but for now that’s the best way to see where will be playing next…

Update: I’ve added an Events section so I’ll be listing our concerts here too. You can subscribe to its RSS feed to get that information directly to your reader (or email) using the link on the sidebar. I’ve also added a calendar which points to each Even’s page.
